Thought there must have been something going on. I have seen some jws on Facebook posting links to jw.org with this article and tagging non-jws in the post.
Witnessing pandemic style.
"the campaign will feature the distribution of a special edition of the watchtower magazine containing the cover series “a better world is near.”".
"more than 36 million printed copies of the magazine will be distributed in some 230 languages to communities in 240 lands around the globe.
in addition, the digital publication is available on various platforms in nearly 400 languages.".
...why have you left the god and his son?.
You are right Smiddy, everything on earth wants a piece of something else. Even whales are merciless carnivores- I think a lot of woke, peace loving, vegan hippies often forget that.
i know for a fact it would not start off with a talking snake, magical fruit, invisible beings that desire beautiful women to have sex with.. and it wouldn’t end with a flying dragon, a two horned lamb, locusts that resembled horses with men’s faces, but with women’s hair and teeth of lions.
and the book wouldn’t allow for hundreds of millions of religions to spurt from it.
i think the first thing a book written by god would have, is that it would be written in a way that all languages could understand without being translated.. regardless of what language you would speak, we could read it and understand what it said.
A nice picture of the author on the back cover.
the poor spendthe middle-class savethe wealthy invest.
the unique circumstances of the lockdown and stimulus checks has highlighted these differences in stark ways.. on one hand, you have jumps in sales and valuation of companies like foot locker and nike, as people spend their "free" government money on sneakers.
they blow it on useless tat.
Its interesting that the bible, especially Proverbs actually extols the virtues of working hard and being wealthy. Nowhere in the bible does it say 'pioneering is the key to success'.
Instead, Proverbs 13:22 is a really profound verse that recommends the opposite but is yet another verse JW's choose not to live by. It says, 'a good man leaves an inheritance to his grandchildren.'
If everyone followed this advice they would try their best not to blow every cent on themselves but look to the future and think about how to live up to our responsibilty to make our childrens lives better. It forces you to plan financially and build wealth. It even incentivises parents to stay together through the tough times for the sake of their childrens well being.
It takes effort to stick to a financial plan, but its not a question of being smart, because if that was the case every stock-broker should be a multi millionaire, which they arent. It actually takes big balls to take a leap and invest, or start a business, and no one knows what tomorrow brings so you have to calculate as best as you can and keep an eye on your investments.
Wealth doesnt buy happiness but id rather be depressed driving a Porsche than a sh1tbox that breaks down every couple of days.( I dont own a Porsche but you know what I mean)
a news article has the headline of " ‘case closed’: 99.9% of scientists agree climate emergency caused by humans"; see https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/oct/19/case-closed-999-of-scientists-agree-climate-emergency-caused-by-humans .
the article says in part the following.. 'the scientific consensus that humans are altering the climate has passed 99.9%, according to research that strengthens the case for global action at the cop26 summit in glasgow.. the degree of scientific certainty about the impact of greenhouse gases is now similar to the level of agreement on evolution and plate tectonics, the authors say, based on a survey of nearly 90,000 climate-related studies.
this means there is practically no doubt among experts that burning fossil fuels, such as oil, gas, coal, peat and trees, is heating the planet and causing more extreme weather.. a previous survey in 2013 showed 97% of studies published between 1991 and 2012 supported the idea that human activities are altering earth’s climate.. this has been updated and expanded by the study by cornell university that shows the tiny minority of sceptical voices has diminished to almost nothing as evidence mounts of the link between fossil-fuel burning and climate disruption.. the latest survey of peer-reviewed literature published from 2012 to november 2020 was conducted in two stages.
Vidqun:
"By the way, other planets of our solar system are also heating up, e.g. Jupiter. Might the problem not lie with the sun, earth's distance from the sun and the tilt of the earth?"
@Vidqun,I looked this up because I noticed you have posted this before. There are a couple of problems with this idea. For one, the Sun has been radiating less heat over over the last 50 years.
Any proof of heating on other bodies in the solar system is non-existant, it has only only been conjectured because of visual observations, not actual temperature measurements.
Jupiter receives about 4% of the radiation the earth receives from the Sun because of its distance from the earth, it actually generates more heat internally than it receives from the Sun.
As far as the angle of axis goes, why would it matter? All planets have elliptical orbits and therefore the distance they are from the Sun varies throughout their year. Not all planets have a nice 23.5 degree tilt like the earth. Uranus's angle of axis is 97 degrees.
In the case of Neptune, its 'year' is 164 earth years, so any claims that its climate is changing, or getting hotter would have to be observed over a much longer period than a few years to get an accurate picture.
In short, it sounds like the sort of claims people would make trying to normalise global warming right here on Earth.

You might benefit from climate change if you live in high latitudes and you can now swim in the ocean without your penis disappearing thanks to warmer weather. But what if you already live in a place that reaches 50 degrees celcius during summer?
On the topic of volcanoes, large eruptions have in the past, temporarily cooled the planet and have been responsible for famines, not because of co2, but all of the particles that prevent the sun from warming.
No one has mentioned ice core samples, which are essentially a journal of atmospheric gases for the last million years.
By the way, I'll give my post a thumbs down, just to get things moving.

I have come to expect thumbs down on whatever topic it is I post on these days on this forum. Im pretty sure I know who never agrees with me but they will remain 'anonymous' .
I dont think I deserved 2 thumbs down for simply commenting about a co2 chart, and then trying to comment in a respectful, non-alarmist way about climate change. But some people have their mind made up I guess.
Just to raise a point you made Anonymous, heat waves have killed more Australians since 1890 than almost any other natural disaster, so , no, life isnt necessarily better because the world is getting hotter.
Because covid took over the news, maybe some people have forgotten about our 2019- 20 bushfires, which was our worst bushfire year on record. It only cost the lives of 500 million animals- Im sure they'll bounce right back and enjoy life in a progressively hotter world.

The hard part is knowing exactly what will occur because climate is a chaotic system. If a volcano spews co2, this will add a blip to the chart for sure, but it wouldnt equate to a steady rise in co2 over decades, which is what has happened.
50 years is nothing in geological time, which, to me makes it all the more alarming if it is indeed human activity that has driven the increase. Even if humans are 50% to blame, thats still way out of the ordinary and something that should concern us.
so janet yellen, the us treasury secretary, thinks taxing unrealized capital gains would be a way for them to fund their runaway spending.. first, they claimed that the real cost of their nonsense spending was $0, so they were lying then or are lying now ("why not both?!").
second, they claimed that money printing doesn't affect inflation, so why not just print the money instead?.
third, the "for billionaires" is to get the feeble minded masses on board, those that live on benefits and vote democrat for more "free money", but the irs monitoring of $600 bank accounts is also apparently to target the ultra-wealthy as well.
It would be interesting to see how this is implemented. Is it a one time tax, yearly, every 3 months?
A one off slug to your unrealised gains based on their present values seems outrageous- its a bad enough feeling paying tax on realised gains.
The article implies that only liquid assets will be targetted, are they after a slice of the crypto currency pie?
Hybridous- its always the middle class that pay. The super rich get tax breaks and the super poor get handouts. Its the juicy middle class that get the bill.

Charts that track CO2 show clearly a rise in levels since the 1950's. This corresponds to post war development, commercial airlines etc. CO2 levels are the highest they have been in 3 million years according ti a cnn report today.
This rapid change is not normal, or natural. The only question is how bad the effects will be to the planet and life.
If it does drive extreme weather events, it could become a sovereign risk to some countries before long due to the high costs of management.
